LAS CRUCES - A $2.3 million roadway rehabilitation project on US 70 is scheduled to begin Monday, Dec. 8, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

Drivers can expect lane closures on both eastbound and westbound lanes from mile marker 170, about 8 miles east of Organ, to mile marker 161, about 1 mile west of Organ. Construction will begin at the White Sands Missile Range entrance, where crews will mill and pave ramps before moving onto US 70.

Work hours are scheduled from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, with possible weekend work depending on progress and weather conditions.

Officials urged drivers to reduce speed, obey all traffic control devices and use caution while traveling through work zones. Speed limits will be reduced throughout the project area.

Mountain States Constructors has been awarded the contract. The project is expected to take approximately 12 working days and is scheduled for completion by Dec. 23, weather permitting.
