LAS CRUCES - A Deming man is facing a felony charge after investigators say he conspired to commit sexual abuse involving a child under 13, according to court records.
Adrian J. Mora, 32, is charged with conspiracy to commit criminal sexual penetration in the first degree involving a child, a second-degree felony under New Mexico law.
According to a criminal complaint, the alleged conduct occurred in February in Doña Ana County. The complaint states Mora “did by words or acts agree together with another person(s) to commit” the offense.

Case centers on recorded jail calls
The case is based largely on recorded phone calls reviewed by investigators while Mora was in custody, according to a statement of probable cause.
Investigators say the calls included discussions about arranging contact involving a child and referenced plans to meet after his release. The calls were flagged by correctional staff and later reviewed by law enforcement, according to court documents.
Authorities allege Mora communicated with another inmate and discussed plans involving a minor, prompting further investigation by the New Mexico State Police.
Court records show Mora was previously convicted in Luna County of aggravated battery against a household member involving a deadly weapon. His probation in that case was revoked in 2024, and he was serving a three-year prison sentence at the time of the alleged conduct.
Investigation began after report from corrections staff
According to the probable cause statement, the investigation began after a Southern New Mexico Correctional Facility staff member reviewed recorded calls and reported concerns to law enforcement.
Investigators later interviewed individuals connected to the case and obtained additional information related to the alleged communications.
Bond set, conditions imposed
Court records show Mora was arrested on these charges March 13 and is being held on a $10,000 secured bond.
Conditions of release prohibit him from contacting the alleged victim or any potential witnesses and restrict access to weapons, alcohol and illegal substances. Mora is also required to comply with pretrial supervision and appear for all scheduled court hearings.
Court records also show a woman who states she had a long-term relationship with Mora filed a petition for an order of protection on March 26, shortly before his expected release from custody. In the petition, she alleges past abuse and threats against her and her children.
