LAS CRUCES - Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver have endorsed Doña Ana County Clerk Amanda López Askin in her campaign for New Mexico secretary of state.
The endorsements, announced this week in separate campaign statements, add two of the state’s highest-profile Democratic officials to López Askin’s growing list of supporters in the statewide race.
“New Mexico elections are the best in the country. Amanda has the experience and skills to protect our voting rights, stand up to election deniers, and keep our elections safe and fair for all New Mexicans,” Lujan Grisham said in a statement. “Amanda is the Secretary of State New Mexicans deserve.”
Toulouse Oliver also praised López Askin’s election administration experience and positioned her as a successor to the current administration’s approach to voting rights and election security.
“Amanda López Askin is my choice for Secretary of State because New Mexicans can trust her to stand up to Trump and protect our voting rights,” Toulouse Oliver said in a statement. “Amanda has the experience and skills to get the job done right. I know she will safeguard our democracy, combat election deniers, and keep our elections safe and fair for all New Mexicans.”

López Askin, who serves as Doña Ana County clerk, said she would continue efforts to maintain New Mexico’s election standards.
“Under Governor Lujan Grisham New Mexico has modernized our election systems and set the example for voting protections,” López Askin said in a statement. “I am proud to have her endorsement and will work hard every day to maintain New Mexico's high standards for fair and safe elections.”
In response to Toulouse Oliver’s endorsement, López Askin added: “New Mexico runs the best elections in the country. That is thanks to Maggie Toulouse Oliver's leadership. I am proud and humbled to have her endorsement and will work hard every day to maintain her high standards for fair and safe elections.”
López Askin is facing Santa Fe County Clerk Katharine Clark in the Democratic primary for secretary of state. Early voting in the June 2 election began this week across New Mexico.
According to the campaign, López Askin has also received endorsements from U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich, U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez and more than 40 additional supporters. A full list can be found at: amandafornm.com/endorsements/.
