LAS CRUCES - The Animal Services Center of the Mesilla Valley will receive $125,000 in state funding to renovate and expand its surgical suite.

The award is part of nearly $2 million being distributed to 17 animal shelters across New Mexico for construction, renovations and equipment intended to improve the care and sheltering of cats and dogs.

The New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration administers the state’s Animal Welfare Program, which provides funding for animal shelter facilities and related improvements.

Projects funded statewide include kennel construction, heating and cooling systems, quarantine facilities, drainage improvements, fencing and veterinary spaces.

ASCMV was the only Doña Ana County recipient included in the latest funding allocation. Sierra County received a separate $75,000 award for additional kennels, animal runs and shade structures.
