ANTHONY - A man accused of repeatedly stabbing a friend at an Anthony RV park was ordered to remain jailed after a judge found that he posed a danger to the victim and the public.
Alejandro Mustafat faces charges of assault with intent to commit a violent felony and aggravated battery in connection with the July 2 attack at the Anthony RV Park on Anthony Drive, according to the Mesilla Marshals Office.
District Judge Conrad Perea ordered Mustafat to remain incarcerated July 22.
Anthony police were dispatched to the RV park after a wounded man collapsed at the office and another tenant called 911.
According to the release, the victim lived in an RV trailer with Mustafat, whom authorities described as his friend and a former member of the military.
The victim was asleep on a couch when Mustafat allegedly began striking him with his fists. As the victim tried to defend himself, Mustafat allegedly removed a knife from his pocket and repeatedly stabbed him.
The victim escaped from the trailer and ran to the RV park office while bleeding heavily.
He was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center of El Paso with serious injuries. Detectives determined that he had suffered 26 knife wounds across his body and head, according to the release.
Mustafat left the scene and drove to the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office substation on Anthony Drive, where he called 911 and reported that he had been stabbed, investigators said.
Anthony police officers and sheriff’s deputies found blood on Mustafat’s face and clothing.
While speaking with an Anthony police detective, Mustafat allegedly yelled that he had “brutally stabbed him,” referring to the victim.
Investigators later determined that Mustafat had not been stabbed, according to the release.
The Mesilla Marshals Office sent a detective and crime scene team to assist Anthony police with the investigation. The team processed the RV trailer and recovered a bloodied knife.
Mustafat was later arrested on a warrant after arriving at the Anthony Police Department for an interview.
