LAS CRUCES - Dion Leonard, the ultramarathon runner whose unlikely bond with a stray dog inspired the international bestseller Finding Gobi, will appear at Branigan Memorial Library this Saturday.

Leonard and his canine companion, Gobi, will speak in the library’s Roadrunner Room from 1 to 2 p.m. on May 3. The event is free and open to the public.

Finding Gobi recounts Leonard’s 2016 experience during a 155-mile race across the Gobi Desert in China, where a small dog began running alongside him. Despite the grueling terrain — from the Tian Shan Mountains to vast sand dunes and remote yurt villages — the dog kept pace with Leonard for nearly 80 miles.
