LAS CRUCES - The Bureau of Land Management's Las Cruces District honored their active volunteers with a barbecue at La Cueva Group Picnic Site on Tuesday, Nov. 12. This year’s statistics included 88 active volunteers, contributing 21,727 hours — the equivalent of an additional 13 full-time staffers.

The volunteers provided visitor services, trail patrol, maintenance and signing, as well as cultural and paleontological site monitoring. Additionally, they removed graffiti and kept recreation areas operational and enticing to the public.

The hours volunteered this year saved the district more than $737,414.38, according to the agency.
