Food pantry plans two public actions Sept. 16 to raise awareness and support — $1 equals 4.5 meals

LAS CRUCES - Casa de Peregrinos, Doña Ana County’s emergency food pantry, will host a public hunger demonstration Tuesday, Sept. 16, to raise awareness about food insecurity and rally support for its programs.

Organizers say $1 equals 4.5 meals. The demonstration will feature a table set for four and a highchair for a baby — a visual meant to represent the families CdP serves each day. Supporters and hunger strikers plan to hold banners and signs urging donations.

When and where

  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. — Parking lot at 1715 E. University Ave., Las Cruces, facing University
  • 5 to 6 p.m. — Corner of Pool Tech Plus, 2331 E. Lohman Ave., Las Cruces

Casa de Peregrinos has served southern New Mexico for more than 45 years, providing emergency food assistance to thousands of families each month.
