LAS CRUCES - Voters in New Mexico House District 53 will have an opportunity to question the candidates seeking to represent them during a public forum Thursday, Oct. 15, in Chaparral.

Democrat Sarah Silva and Republican Ben Luna Jr. are scheduled to participate in the nonpartisan forum from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Betty McKnight Community Center, 190 County Line Drive.

The Southwest Organizing Project and the Chaparral community organization are hosting the event to give residents an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates about their priorities and how they would represent District 53.

Dr. José Z. García, a former New Mexico higher education secretary and government professor at New Mexico State University, will moderate the discussion.

Organizers said residents will be able to ask questions, raise concerns and hear how each candidate plans to address issues affecting District 53 and surrounding communities.

Spanish interpretation will be available.
