LAS CRUCES - At its regular meeting Monday, Las Cruces City Council approved purchasing agreements for city employee uniforms and adopted zoning changes tied to the Sonoma Ranch North master plan. Councilors also extended the city’s contract with longtime legislative lobbyist Lawrence Horan.

The purchasing agreement, not to exceed $200,000, allows the city to continue buying work uniforms, shoes and related items from Bazaar Uniforms and Men’s Store of El Paso through October 2029. The contract covers uniform needs across multiple city departments.

Councilors also approved an amendment to the city’s lobbying contract with Horan, extending the agreement through Nov. 4, 2026, with a not-to-exceed amount of $120,000. Horan helps the city lobby for capital outlay funding and other policy priorities during state legislative sessions.

In other business, Council approved zoning changes affecting 5.75 acres of land within the Sonoma Ranch North Master Plan area. The affected property lies east of Sonoma Ranch Boulevard, north of the arroyo near Pegasus Drive.

Under the new zoning:

  • About 2 acres will remain open for flood control and recreational uses
  • 2.75 acres will allow for a mix of commercial, office and apartment-style residential development
  • Roughly 1 acre will be designated for medium to high-density single-family housing

The next City Council work session is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, June 23, at City Hall. All meetings and work sessions are livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel.
