LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana Community College recently recognized more than 40 adult education students who earned high school equivalency diplomas.

The college held two graduation ceremonies for students who completed General Educational Development or High School Equivalency Test requirements. The first ceremony was held June 2 at the DACC Sunland Park Campus, and the second was held June 4 at the DACC East Mesa Campus in Las Cruces.

Several graduates received the Camino Real Environmental Center Adult Basic Education Student Scholarship, which was created in 2007 as DACC’s first scholarship for students in adult basic education.

The scholarship recipients were Pedro Campos, Levi Fonseca, Monica Guzman, Sandra Marquez, Ana Regalado and Alma Almaraz.

The scholarship recognizes adult learners working to improve their lives through education and is funded by the Camino Real Environmental Center in Sunland Park. Students were selected based on perfect attendance, completion of pre- and post-testing, enrollment in both spring semester terms and commitment to learning.

DACC is an official testing center and offers classes to help students prepare for GED and HiSET exams. There is no cost to complete a high school equivalency exam, and students must be at least 16 to attend classes.

More information is available through DACC’s Adult Education Program or by calling 575-527-7540.
