LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana Community College is recognizing Emergency Medical Services Week by highlighting students and staff involved in the college’s EMS program.

EMS Week runs May 17-23 and was established in 1974 under President Gerald Ford to recognize emergency medical professionals and the work they perform in communities across the country.

DACC officials said the college’s EMS Program offers four certificates and an associate degree and is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation on Education for the EMS Professions.

“At DACC, we are proud to educate and support the next generation of EMS providers who continue this important tradition of excellence and service,” DACC EMS advisor Nicole Marcak said in a statement.

Marcak also thanked students, faculty members, clinical partners, preceptors and local EMS agencies for their support of emergency medical education and patient care in southern New Mexico.

According to DACC, EMS professionals serve on the front lines of healthcare by responding to emergencies, delivering lifesaving treatment and assisting communities during critical situations.

More information about the program is available through DACC’s Emergency Medical Services program page.
