LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana Community College’s food pantry received a major delivery last week as part of a new partnership aimed at helping students and staff facing food insecurity.

Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico delivered 3,000 pounds of food to the college’s FirstLight Federal Credit Union Comfort Casita pantry early last week. The delivery marks the beginning of a partnership that will provide monthly food donations to the campus pantry.

“Adding Roadrunner Food Bank to our list of very generous partners allows us to sustain services more comfortably and ensure pantry visitors have enough food and supplies to supplement their needs,” said Gina Reyes, director of DACC’s Avanza Student Success Center. “This means we can continue our efforts to ensure that no one goes hungry on our campus.”

The Comfort Casita pantry provides access to nutritious food for students and staff and aims to reduce barriers that could interfere with academic success.

Students experiencing financial hardship or rising food costs may visit the pantry once per week.

Community members interested in supporting the effort can donate through the FirstLight Comfort Casita fund at the New Mexico State University Foundation or learn more about food assistance programs through Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico.
