Hillary Avitia recognized by business education accrediting group as college extends award-winning streak

LAS CRUCES - A Doña Ana Community College professor has received a regional teaching award and is now in consideration for an international honor.

Hillary Avitia, chair of DACC’s Administrative Technologies department, was named the Region 6 associate degree recipient of the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Teaching Excellence Award.

The recognition places Avitia among educators being considered for the organization’s International Teaching Excellence Award.

Avitia is scheduled to be recognized at the ACBSP Conference, set for June 11-13 in Phoenix.

College officials said the award highlights her work in teaching and student success.

The honor continues a streak for DACC, marking the fourth consecutive year a faculty member has received the award. Previous recipients include James Cadena, Joaquin Tadeo and Dr. Laura De La Cruz.

The Teaching Excellence Award, established in 1995, recognizes educators across ACBSP’s global membership.
