The entrepreneur and philanthropist will receive an honorary Pre-Business degree during DACC’s May 14 commencement ceremony

LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana Community College will award an honorary degree to Mesilla Valley Transportation founder Royal Jones during commencement ceremonies May 14 at the Pan American Center.

Jones will receive an honorary degree in Pre-Business during the ceremony, which is scheduled for 7 p.m.

DACC described Jones as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and mentor who founded Mesilla Valley Transportation in 1982.

According to the college, Jones has supported New Mexico State University, local students, youth activities and community organizations through charitable and philanthropic efforts.

DACC said MVT’s annual charity golf tournament has raised more than $500,000 to support veterans, children, educators, domestic violence survivors, foster children and other community needs.

Mesilla Valley Transportation has grown into one of the largest privately owned trucking companies in the Southwest, according to the college. The company operates more than 1,700 trucks and 7,000 trailers across the United States and Canada.
