The Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the June 5 death of Joseph Omar Ruiz as a homicide and is asking anyone with information to contact Central Dispatch or Crime Stoppers.

Deputies say Joseph Omar Ruiz was discovered in the desert east of Las Cruces on June 5 and are asking the public for information.

LAS CRUCES - Deputies with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a homicide after finding a man dead in the desert near Dripping Springs Road.

DASO says deputies responded June 5 to the area near 4201 Dripping Springs Road for a report of an unattended death. They found Joseph Omar Ruiz, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s officials said the case is being treated as a homicide.

Investigators are asking residents who saw anything suspicious in the area that day to come forward. Anyone with information can call Central Dispatch at 575-526-0795, option 6. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Las Cruces at 1-800-222-TIPS.
