DOÑA ANA COUNTY - Doña Ana County and Doña Ana Community College have entered into a new partnership to create paid internship opportunities for students pursuing careers in water and wastewater operations.

County officials and DACC leaders signed a memorandum of understanding recently establishing a Water Technology Program internship focused on workforce development and long-term career pathways in essential public services.

The program will offer hands-on, paid internships for students enrolled in DACC’s Water Technology Program while helping the county build a skilled local workforce to support water and wastewater operations.

“My career in water technology started at DACC, so I know firsthand that the students’ education and training can turn into a great career with opportunities for growth,” Mireya Rascon, assistant utilities director, said in a statement. “This agreement represents both organizations’ commitment to investing in education and creating real careers for county residents.”

Under the agreement, up to four interns will be accepted during a spring or fall semester and paid $20 per hour. Interns will work alongside staff in the Doña Ana County Utilities Department and receive mentorship and hands-on training in wastewater treatment operations.

Officials said the internship is designed to prepare students for long-term careers in the water and wastewater field. After graduation, participants will be eligible to test for a Level II wastewater operator license, positioning them for employment opportunities within the county and across the region.
