LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana County election officials are reminding voters of final deadlines and voting rules ahead of Tuesday’s primary election.

Saturday, May 30, is the final day for early voting at several locations throughout Doña Ana County. Voters can find voting locations and hours at DACElections.com.

Completed absentee ballots must be returned by 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2. Voters may return ballots to the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office, any polling location or any secure 24-hour ballot drop box in the county.

The Clerk’s Office also reminded voters that New Mexico now allows semi-open primaries. Registered Democrats and Republicans may vote in their respective party primaries, while decline-to-state or independent voters may choose a major party ballot without changing their registration.

Voters affiliated with a qualified minor party who want to participate in a major party primary must update their registration through same-day registration, according to the Clerk’s Office.

Same-day registration is also available to voters who need to update their name or address. Voters using same-day registration must provide a valid government-issued photo ID and proof of residence, such as a utility bill.

For write-in votes to count, voters must write the name of a qualified write-in candidate and fill in the corresponding oval on the ballot.

Electioneering is prohibited within 100 feet of polling locations. Prohibited activities include displaying campaign signs, distributing flyers, wearing political campaign apparel or advocating for or against candidates.

Polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Any voter in line by 7 p.m. will still be allowed to vote.

The Clerk’s Office will post election results throughout the evening, though results will remain unofficial until the canvassing and certification process is complete.

Voters can find additional information at DACElections.com, call the Doña Ana County Clerk’s Office at 575-647-7428 or email elections@donaana.gov.
