LAS CRUCES - The Doña Ana County Road Department will begin chip sealing several roads in the Brazito area this week, with work expected to continue through Nov. 20.

The project will include roads in District 1 such as Valdes, Apodaca, Valles, E. Organ, Calle De Las Margaritas, Leyendecker, Richardson, Salopek and Addington roads, as well as E. and W. San Miguel streets and E. Bellman Street. In District 3, work will take place along Ft. Fillmore Road.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane during the project. Roads will remain open, but drivers may experience short delays. County officials urge motorists to slow down, watch for workers and use extra caution in the area.

Chip sealing involves applying a thin layer of oil followed by small rocks that are rolled into the surface. The process seals cracks, protects the road and improves driving safety.
