LAS CRUCES - The remains of 38 people whose bodies were not claimed will be laid to rest during an unclaimed burial ceremony at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 100 N. Espina St. in Las Cruces. The public is invited to attend.

Doña Ana County officials said all individuals were cremated, with remains held by the county’s Health and Human Services Department for at least two years, as required by state law. During that time, no one came forward to claim them.

The county provides cremation and burial for unclaimed individuals who die within its jurisdiction, ensuring they are laid to rest with dignity. Family or friends may still claim cremains until Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Those seeking information about claiming cremains are encouraged to contact the Doña Ana County Health and Human Services Department at 575-525-5866, email hhsprogramops@donaana.gov or complete the online Claimant Information Form.
