Flooding has created difficult driving conditions on NM 28 near Anthony and on NM 182 and NM 183 near La Union, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

NMDOT urges drivers to use extreme caution and avoid flooded roadways as standing water impacts multiple state routes

ANTHONY - Flooding is causing difficult driving conditions on several state highways near Anthony and La Union, according to the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

NMDOT reported standing water on NM 28 in both directions from mile marker 0 at the Texas state line to mile marker 14, about two miles south of La Mesa. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution in the area.

Additional flooding is affecting highways near La Union, including:

  • NM 182, eastbound and westbound from mile marker 0 to mile marker 2
  • NM 183, eastbound and westbound from mile marker 0 to mile marker 1

NMDOT warned motorists not to drive through flooded roadways and to seek alternate routes when water is present.

“When the roadway is flooded, do not cross and seek an alternate route,” the department said. “Turn around, don’t drown.”

Conditions may change rapidly as weather impacts continue.
