Congressman meets with students, educators in Career and Technical Education program

LAS CRUCES - U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez visited Mayfield High School on Tuesday to meet with students and educators involved in the school’s Career and Technical Education program.

Vasquez toured classrooms and spoke with students participating in hands-on training programs designed to prepare them for careers in trades such as welding and automotive work.

During the visit, Vasquez sat in on an advanced welding class and discussed workforce development with students and instructors.

School officials said the program provides students with practical skills and helps prepare them for jobs in high-demand industries.

Vasquez said Career and Technical Education programs give students a pathway to stable careers while supporting the state’s workforce needs.

“New Mexicans are eager to work hard and build better futures for themselves and their families,” Vasquez said in a statement. “CTE programming in our high schools gives our students a head start in a competitive job market.”

According to information shared during the visit, 99% of students at Mayfield High School who complete at least three CTE courses graduate.
