LAS CRUCES - Doña Ana County voters will decide this November whether to back two General Obligation bond questions that county leaders say would deliver modern public amenities, strengthen communities and improve residents’ quality of life.

According to a news release from the county, the proposed bonds would fund recreation centers, park improvements, wastewater upgrades and cultural projects. County officials said the plan would not raise property tax rates beyond what voters approve.

Bond Question 1: Community well-being

  • New recreation centers in North and South County, described as vital spaces for youth, families and seniors
  • Park and trail upgrades to promote outdoor activity
  • Renovations to existing community centers
  • Wastewater system improvements to protect public health

Bond Question 2: Culture and growth

  • Converting the old Doña Ana County Speedway into a public amphitheater at the fairgrounds
  • High Mesa Road upgrades to boost safety, emergency access and business development

“In November, voters will have the opportunity to help us prioritize quality-of-life initiatives for our community,” County Manager Scott Andrews said in the release. “Our community centers are embedded in the fabric of our county, and we look forward to making strategic improvements where our community comes together to connect and grow.”

The two bond questions will be on the Nov. 4 ballot for voter approval. OMN will continue covering the proposal, including public input and election outcomes, in the weeks ahead.
