The playground at the small East Missouri Avenue park will close July 10 while crews repair rubberized safety surfacing.

LAS CRUCES - The playground at Gus Vlachakis Park will close Friday, July 10, while the city repairs rubberized safety surfacing.

Gus Vlachakis Park is located at 2600 E. Missouri Ave., behind Fire Station 4. The 3.5-acre park includes a playground, swing set, shaded picnic tables and an art sculpture.

The Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department said the playground will be closed during the repairs and during the required curing time for the new safety surfacing material.

The city is asking the public to follow posted signs and stay out of the repaired or barricaded playground area.
