HATCH - Parents and caregivers can receive free assistance checking and using child safety seats during a car seat inspection clinic Friday morning in Hatch.

The clinic will run from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, June 5, at Jardin de Los Niños, 509 N. Franklin St. Nationally certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will help participants select, install and use child safety seats and booster seats properly.

Technicians will conduct inspections on a first-come, first-served basis.

Participants should bring their car seat, car seat manual, vehicle manual and, when possible, the child who uses the seat. Technicians will spend about 30 minutes per seat and will explain common car seat safety errors.

Replacement seats will be available if technicians determine a seat has been recalled, expired or is otherwise unsafe. A $35 fee may apply for replacement seats, and children must be present to qualify.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Division funds the fitting stations, which are open to the public.
