Holloman Air Force Base opens registration for Ace of Races Marathon

Holloman Air Force Base has opened registration for its annual Ace of Races Marathon scheduled for Oct. 10 near Alamogordo.

The Oct. 10 event includes a full marathon, half marathon, 5K and children’s race, with portions of the course running through the Holloman flightline

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE - Holloman Air Force Base has opened registration for its annual Ace of Races Marathon scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10.

The event is open to the public and includes a full marathon, half marathon, 5K and 1-mile children’s dash.

According to Holloman Air Force Base, the USA Track and Field-certified course qualifies participants for major races including the Boston Marathon and New York Marathon.

Runners will travel through multiple areas of the base, including the flightline past F-16 and MQ-9 aircraft, according to organizers.

Registration fees are scheduled to increase June 5.

The marathon is named after Maj. Richard Bong, a World War II pilot assigned to the 49th Fighter Group during the 1940s. Holloman officials said Bong shot down 40 Japanese aircraft during the war and became known as the country’s top flying ace.
