LAS CRUCES - Smoke alarms alerted occupants to a fire Saturday morning at a home on Big Springs Street, allowing them to evacuate without injury before firefighters arrived.

Las Cruces firefighters were called just before 4:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, to a report of a fire at a home in the 4700 block of Big Springs Street, according to a news release from the city.

The first crew to arrive reported an active fire in the garage. Firefighters began an aggressive attack and contained the fire to the garage, preventing it from spreading to the rest of the home.
