LAS CRUCES - A Las Cruces man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he broke into a federal storage building and stole property with two other individuals.

Aaron Trujillo, 42, is charged with non-residential burglary, breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit non-residential burglary.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Doña Ana County Magistrate Court, the incident occurred March 11 at a storage building located at 1800 Marquess St.

Las Cruces police responded to the location after employees with the Bureau of Land Management reported a burglary. Investigators learned that several items had been removed from the building without permission and that the exterior lock had been cut.

Employees provided still images showing three individuals at the building, according to court records. One officer later identified one of the individuals as Trujillo.

Investigators also obtained a photograph of Trujillo through the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division and confirmed it matched the individual seen in the images.

The images appeared to show Trujillo approaching the building around 5:16 a.m. carrying a pair of bolt cutters, which police said is consistent with the damage observed on the lock.

Additional images show Trujillo leaving the building about nine minutes later, carrying property matching items reported stolen.

Police said Trujillo was accompanied by two other individuals, and investigators believe the group planned or agreed to commit the burglary together.

One piece of stolen property — a Stihl GTA saw — was later recovered from a local pawn shop and identified as coming from the building.

Court records state that Trujillo and the other individuals did not have permission from the Bureau of Land Management to enter the building or remove property.

A warrant for Trujillo’s arrest was issued April 2. Jail records show he was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center early Tuesday morning.

As of Tuesday, Trujillo remained in custody without bond.
