Las Cruces gas prices climb ahead of summer travel season

Gas prices in Las Cruces and across New Mexico continued climbing this week, with regular unleaded averaging more than $4.30 per gallon ahead of summer travel season.

Average regular unleaded prices in Las Cruces rose about 24 cents over the past week as fuel costs continued increasing across New Mexico.

LAS CRUCES - Gas prices in Las Cruces and across New Mexico continued climbing this week heading into the summer travel season, according to AAA data captured Friday afternoon.

The average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Las Cruces stood at $4.331 on Friday, up from $4.088 one week earlier and $3.951 one month ago.

Statewide, New Mexico’s average price for regular unleaded gasoline reached $4.391 per gallon Friday, compared to $4.148 a week ago and $3.958 a month ago. The national average stood at $4.528 per gallon.

AAA’s data showed Albuquerque’s average regular unleaded price at $4.384 Friday.

Diesel prices remained elevated across the state, averaging $5.488 per gallon statewide and $5.348 in Las Cruces.

Among lower prices in the Las Cruces area reported by GasBuddy Friday afternoon:

  • Allsup’s at 8951 Mountain Vista Parkway was listed at $3.98 per gallon
  • Love’s Travel Stop at 8993 Robert Larson Blvd. was also listed at $3.98
  • TA Travel Center at 202 N. Motel Blvd. was listed at $4.09
  • Several stations in Las Cruces and nearby communities were reporting prices between roughly $4.19 and $4.31 per gallon

GasBuddy data reflects prices reported by users and may not capture all stations. Prices were collected at about 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 15, and may change throughout the day.

AAA said the national average dipped for several days earlier this week before beginning to rise again. The organization said crude oil prices remaining above $100 per barrel continue putting upward pressure on fuel prices nationwide.

AAA’s data showed Las Cruces regular unleaded prices remain below both the statewide and national averages, though prices have risen sharply over the past year. One year ago, regular unleaded averaged $2.968 per gallon in Las Cruces and $2.984 statewide.

The highest recorded average regular unleaded price in Las Cruces was $4.877 per gallon in June 2022, according to AAA.
