The City of Las Cruces announced Memorial Day closures and holiday hours for city offices, pools, transit services and solid waste operations ahead of the May 25 holiday.

City offices, libraries and museums will close May 25 for Memorial Day, while trash collection and several recreation facilities will continue operating

LAS CRUCES - Most City of Las Cruces offices and facilities will close Monday, May 25, in observance of Memorial Day, though emergency services and several recreational facilities will remain open.

Police and fire services will continue operating normally during the holiday.

Facilities scheduled to close for Memorial Day include:

  • City Hall
  • all Las Cruces libraries and branches
  • museums
  • Senior Programs facilities and services
  • Visit Las Cruces
  • all transit operations and facilities
  • A Fielder Memorial Safe Haven
  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center
  • Rio Grande Theatre
  • Youth Development and Diversion
  • Castaneda Parks & Recreation Administration Office
  • South Central Solid Waste Authority administrative offices
  • Foothills Landfill

Meerscheidt Recreation Center will close, though league play will continue.

The city said residential and commercial solid waste collection services, including grappler service, will continue operating on their regular schedules.

The South Central Solid Waste Transfer Station, 2865 W. Amador Ave., will remain open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for material drop-off. Doña Ana County collection sites and Corralitos Landfill will also operate from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Several aquatic facilities will remain open during the holiday.

Regional Aquatic Center, 1401 E. Hadley Ave.:

  • Fitness swim: 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
  • Open swim: noon to 3 p.m.
  • Open swim: 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Las Cruces Natatorium, 1405 E. Hadley Ave.:

  • Open: 6 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Free swimming available Memorial Day

Outdoor pools will also open for Memorial Day weekend, with free swimming available on Memorial Day at both outdoor pools.

East Mesa Bataan Memorial Pool, 6141 Reynolds Drive:

  • Open swim: noon to 3 p.m.
  • Open swim: 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Laabs Pool, 701 W. Picacho Ave.:

  • Open swim: noon to 3 p.m.
  • Open swim: 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
