LAS CRUCES - The Las Cruces City Council approved a contract Monday for independent evaluation services tied to nearly $10 million in opioid settlement funds the city and Doña Ana County expect to receive through 2038.

Council approved the agreement with Albuquerque-based Pivot Evaluation, LLC on a 7-0 vote during its May 4 meeting.

According to the city, Las Cruces and Doña Ana County will use the settlement money for treatment services and prevention programs connected to nationwide opioid litigation settlements involving manufacturers, distributors and retailers.

The contract with Pivot Evaluation is valued at up to $147,253 and runs through Nov. 30, 2029. The city said the firm will provide independent evaluation and reporting for opioid settlement-funded programs.

City officials said the evaluation services are needed to provide unified and credible reporting on how the funds are used.

The May 4 meeting and all City Council meetings can be viewed on the City's YouTube channel.
