The Freedom250 Hometown Heroes ceremony will recognize Chief Jeremy Story for leadership in advancing public safety and include a shoe and sock drive for organizations serving human trafficking victims.

LAS CRUCES - The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico will honor Las Cruces Police Chief Jeremy Story during a Freedom250 Hometown Heroes ceremony July 10.

The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 10, in the Las Cruces City Council Chambers.

Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison, Las Cruces Mayor Eric Enriquez and state Sen. Crystal Brantley are expected to deliver remarks recognizing Story’s service to the community and the state.

The ceremony is part of Freedom250, a nationwide commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said the initiative encourages communities to celebrate service, sacrifice and civic engagement at the local level.

Hometown Heroes is a U.S. Department of Justice recognition program honoring local individuals for service and contributions to their communities as part of the celebration.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office is also conducting a community shoe and sock drive benefiting local organizations that serve human trafficking victims.

The ceremony is open to the public and media. The event also will be livestreamed on the City of Las Cruces YouTube channel.
