Las Cruces police issued 61 citations in a one-hour operation Thursday morning on Main Street, targeting speeders and other traffic offenses.

LAS CRUCES - The Las Cruces Police Department’s Traffic Unit issued 61 citations during a one-hour enforcement operation Thursday morning along Main Street.

Of the 61 citations, 23 were for speeding, 15 for driving unregistered vehicles and 12 for operating without proof of insurance.

Officers also cited several drivers for other violations, including driving without a license, failing to stop at a red light and improper child restraints.

The enforcement effort took place along north Main Street from Picacho Avenue to Interstate 25. It began around 7:30 a.m. Oct. 16 and lasted about an hour.

Police said similar operations are likely to be held in the coming weeks.
