Las Cruces police issue 86 citations during north Main Street enforcement

The Las Cruces Police Department issued 86 traffic citations during a short enforcement operation along north Main Street on Aug. 7, 2025. Most were for speeding, with additional tickets for registration, insurance and license violations.

Most citations were for speeding on a six-lane stretch with a posted 35 mph limit

LAS CRUCES - The Las Cruces Police Department’s Traffic Unit issued 86 citations Thursday during a short enforcement operation along north Main Street.

According to police, 50 of the citations were issued to motorists driving faster than the posted 35 mph limit. The limit has been in place since the New Mexico Department of Transportation widened the roadway to six lanes between Solano Drive and Triviz/Elks drives.

Other citations issued during the operation included:

  • 18 for driving with no proof of vehicle registration
  • 12 for failure to provide proof of insurance
  • 2 for no driver’s license
  • 4 for miscellaneous traffic infractions

Police reminded drivers to obey the posted 35 mph speed limit in both directions on that stretch of Main Street.

The enforcement operation began at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, and lasted about 75 minutes.
