Department targets experienced law enforcement with bonuses, relocation assistance and immediate overtime eligibility

LAS CRUCES - The Las Cruces Police Department is offering up to $35,000 in incentives to recruit experienced law enforcement officers through lateral transfers.

The department is targeting officers who are commissioned in New Mexico or who have at least two years of certified law enforcement experience in another state and are in good standing with their current agency.

LCPD is offering a series of incentives tied to hiring and retention milestones:

  • $10,000 upon hire
  • $10,000 after completion of field training
  • $10,000 after completing a one-year probationary period
  • An additional $5,000 in relocation assistance for those who qualify

Lateral transfer officers can expect hourly pay ranging from $30.27 to $36.33, depending on experience. Officers are also eligible for overtime pay immediately upon hire.

New hires receive 40 hours of personal leave and begin accruing additional leave immediately.
