LAS CRUCES - A Las Cruces man is accused of threatening his girlfriend with a rifle while intoxicated during an argument Sunday before refusing officers’ commands to come out of their home.

Treyvon Stigler, 30, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery against a household member, negligent use of a deadly weapon while intoxicated and resisting, evading or obstructing an officer.

According to court records reviewed by Organ Mountain News, Stigler and the woman had been in a relationship for about four months and had lived together for about two months.

Investigators said Stigler began drinking Crown Royal at their Foster Road residence Saturday evening before the couple went to Chili’s, where they shared another alcoholic drink.

The woman told police she became ill and went to their vehicle to rest. She said Stigler later came outside and began yelling at her in front of his friends, prompting her to leave the restaurant on foot.

Woman recorded argument, police say

After the couple returned home, court records say Stigler continued drinking and arguing with the woman as she tried to go to sleep.

The woman began recording the confrontation because, she told investigators, she wanted to show Stigler how he behaved when he was drunk.

Police said several recordings captured Stigler holding a long black rifle in his right hand while arguing with her.

In one recording described in the probable cause statement, Stigler allegedly threatened to hit the woman with the rifle. In another, investigators said he held the gun near her and an audible sound consistent with the rifle being racked could be heard.

The woman also told investigators Stigler twisted her big toe during the argument, causing pain.

She told police she began crying and feared what he might do next.

Officers remove woman, children from home

Police were first dispatched to the residence shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday following a disconnected 911 call from the woman’s phone, according to court records.

Officers initially were unable to make contact and were dispatched again about 40 minutes later.

After speaking with the woman and learning a rifle was involved, officers removed her and the children from the residence.

Police then called for Stigler to come out of the bedroom. Investigators said he did not respond.

Officers backed out of the residence and began surrounding the home while repeatedly calling for Stigler to come outside, according to the probable cause statement.

Police said Stigler continued refusing to respond or leave the residence.

A magistrate later found probable cause and issued a warrant for his arrest. Court records show the warrant was served Sunday.

Stigler has not been convicted of the charges and is presumed innocent under the law.
