LAS CRUCES - A Mesquite woman faces a felony charge after police say she struck her boyfriend with a crowbar in Anthony, leaving him hospitalized with head injuries and a fractured hand.

Desiree Ann Lopez, 22, was booked March 23 into the Doña Ana County Detention Center on a charge of aggravated battery against a household member with a deadly weapon. She is being held without bond, according to jail records.

According to a statement of probable cause, officers responded to a report of an aggravated battery at a residence in Anthony and spoke with the victim, who had lacerations to his head and was in the hospital. The man told police he had been arguing with Lopez, whom he had been dating on and off for about two years.

Investigators said Lopez became upset during the argument, grabbed a crowbar and struck the man. Medical personnel later determined the victim’s hand had also been fractured in the incident, and officers documented his injuries and hospital paperwork, according to the report.

Court records show Lopez was charged last year in a separate case alleging aggravated battery against a household member involving a brick. That case was later dismissed.

The current case remains pending.
