Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery to highlight local artists in February

MESILLA - The Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery, at 2470-A Calle de Guadalupe across from the Fountain Theatre, will spotlight the work of two local artists, Jane Peacock and Barbara Bush, throughout February.

  • Jane Peacock, oil painter
    Based in Las Cruces, Peacock creates contemporary realistic works depicting the people and landscapes of the Borderland and New Mexico. A native of El Paso, she studied painting and nutrition science at the University of Texas and has been painting for most of her life. Her subjects often include farm workers and the natural scenery around Las Cruces, with oil as her preferred medium. Peacock enjoys plein air painting and finalizes her pieces in her studio. She is a member of Plein Air Painters of New Mexico and Let’s Paint New Mexico and has served as the Artist in Residence for the Organ Mountain Desert Peaks National Monument.

  • Barbara Bush, oil painter
    Bush transitioned to full-time artistry after a 30-year career in the business sector. She studied art at Southern Methodist University, majoring in drawing and painting. In 2005, she began plein air painting and now resides in Las Cruces, where she captures the landscapes of Texas and New Mexico.

Upcoming event: “My Masterpiece Game”

The gallery will host My Masterpiece Game during February as part of the Love of Art Celebration Month. Visitors are invited to match regional artists' original creations with the world-renowned artists who inspired them. Clues will be attached to each piece, and the game will run all month.

An open house will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., where visitors can participate in the event. The participant with the most correct matches will receive a $250 gallery gift certificate.

The Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery features works from 30 regional artists across a variety of media, including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, stained glass, photography, ceramics, and mixed media. Other offerings include handmade jewelry, fiber art, unique woodturnings, and miniature paintings.
