LAS CRUCES - A 20-year-old Las Cruces man has been arrested after investigators say he fired multiple gunshots at a home and nearby vehicles during a confrontation on Monte Vista Street.
Elijiah Issayah-Jesu Files Mesa was arrested March 10 on multiple felony charges stemming from a Feb. 28 shooting incident, according to court records.
Mesa faces seven charges, including shooting at a dwelling, shooting from a motor vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

According to a statement of probable cause filed in Doña Ana County Magistrate Court, the incident began when a maroon Ford stopped in front of a residence on Monte Vista Street. A man inside the vehicle allegedly pointed a shotgun at a woman outside the home and threatened her.
The woman later identified the suspect as Mesa, whom she said had lived with her for about a month before she recently forced him to leave the residence.
Investigators say Mesa then began firing multiple shots toward the home.
Several people were inside or near the residence at the time of the shooting. Surveillance video from the home reportedly captured the suspect pointing a gun and the sound of gunfire.
One woman who was outside the residence when the shooting began told investigators she heard the shots and felt something strike her chest before realizing a bullet had struck near where she had been standing.
Another witness told investigators she saw Mesa fire toward the residence while pointing the gun at several people outside.
Police also documented gunfire damage to multiple vehicles in the area, including a Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Avalon.
Mesa was booked into the Doña Ana County Detention Center after his arrest.
Court records show he faces the following charges:
- Shooting at a dwelling or occupied building (no great bodily harm)
- Shooting at a dwelling or occupied building causing personal injury
- Two counts of shooting at or from a motor vehicle
- Three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon
Pretrial services recommended that Mesa be released on his own recognizance while the case proceeds through court.
