MountainView Regional Medical Center was the only hospital in Doña Ana County to receive an “A” grade in the latest national safety rankings

LAS CRUCES - MountainView Regional Medical Center earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group in its Spring 2026 rankings, becoming the only hospital in Doña Ana County to receive the top grade in the latest evaluation cycle.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization that evaluates hospitals using measures focused on preventable medical errors, accidents, injuries and infections. Hospitals receive grades ranging from “A” to “F.”

According to MountainView, the hospital was one of only two facilities in New Mexico to receive an “A” grade this spring.

“Being the only hospital in Doña Ana County to earn an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group speaks to the high standards our team sets – and meets – every day,” MountainView CEO Patrick Shannon said in a statement. “This achievement reflects the dedication of our physicians, nurses and employees to deliver the safest care possible for our community.”

“An ‘A’ Grade is a strong sign that MountainView is deeply committed to protecting patients from harm,” Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, said in a statement. “We commend the leadership, Board, clinicians, staff and volunteers for the role each played in earning this distinction.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is updated twice each year and focuses exclusively on patient safety measures, according to the organization.
