LAS CRUCES - MountainView Regional Medical Center has appointed Patrick Shannon as its new chief executive officer, according to a news release.

Shannon assumed the role Jan. 26. He brings more than 30 years of healthcare operations and management experience and most recently served as CEO of Huntsville Memorial Hospital in Huntsville, Texas, a position he held for nearly five years.

“MountainView is more than a hospital; it is a trusted cornerstone of care for families across Las Cruces and surrounding areas,” Shannon said in a statement. “I am looking forward to building strong relationships — within the hospital walls and throughout the community.”

Before that, Shannon served as chief operating officer for Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas in Beaumont, where he oversaw multiple departments, including behavioral health, a regional cancer center and a satellite campus in Orange, Texas. He has also held leadership roles at Ochsner Medical Center in Louisiana, including COO at Ochsner Medical Center - Kenner and vice president of surgical services at Ochsner’s flagship hospital in New Orleans.

Earlier in his career, Shannon worked for HCA’s Gulf South and Central-West divisions, including operations in El Paso.

As CEO, Shannon said his priorities include patient care and staff support.

Joe Bullock, chairman of MountainView’s board of trustees, said the hospital conducted an extensive search before selecting Shannon.

“Patrick Shannon checked all the boxes for what we were looking for,” Bullock said in a statement.

Shannon is a graduate of Louisiana State University and holds a master’s degree in business administration from Northeast Louisiana University and a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of St. Francis. He is a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom II and retired from the U.S. Army Reserves with the rank of colonel. He is also a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
