Organ Mountain News report

LAS CRUCES - New Mexico voters have several options to participate in the primary election, depending on their party affiliation.

Here’s how it works

🔵🔴 Democrat and Republican voters
If you’re registered as a Democrat or Republican and want to change parties, you must do so by May 5. If you miss the deadline, you will vote using your current party registration.

🟢🟡 Green and Libertarian voters
Members of New Mexico’s qualified minor parties can use same-day registration to change party affiliation when early voting begins or on Election Day.

⚪ Unaffiliated, Decline to State and Independent voters
If you’re not registered with a party, you can still vote in a primary. You do not need to update your registration — just choose which party’s ballot you want when you vote.

Quick reference

  • Democrat / Republican — Change deadline: May 5
  • Green / Libertarian — Same-day registration available
  • Unaffiliated / Independent — Choose a ballot, no changes required

Voters can check or update their registration at NMVote.org. For additional questions, contact your county clerk or visit the New Mexico Secretary of State’s website.
