NM State’s Marlee Cavitt, Alesha Lane earn CUSA academic honors

Cavitt and Lane were recognized for work in the classroom after standout seasons that included conference meet awards and NCAA West First Round appearances.

DALLAS - NM State track and field athletes Marlee Cavitt and Alesha Lane were named to the 2026 Conference USA All-Academic Team, the conference announced Friday.

Cavitt and Lane were two of 22 student-athletes recognized by Conference USA for achievement in competition and in the classroom.

Cavitt, a junior from Sacramento, was named Women’s High Point Scorer of the Meet at the 2026 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships after winning individual titles in the 100 meters and 200 meters. She also helped NM State’s 4x100 relay team finish sixth.

Cavitt later represented the Aggies in the 100 and 200 meters at the 2026 NCAA West First Round at the University of Arkansas.

Across the indoor and outdoor CUSA championships, Cavitt recorded four podium finishes, including three individual titles. She also holds the fastest outdoor 100-meter time in school history at 11.38 seconds.

Cavitt has a 3.72 GPA and is majoring in exercise science.

Lane, a senior from Casper, Wyoming, was named Field Performer of the Meet at the 2026 CUSA Outdoor Track and Field Championships after scoring 17 points in field events.

Lane won her first individual outdoor title in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 16.05 meters, or 52 feet, 8 inches, on her final attempt. She also competed in the shot put and discus at the NCAA West First Round.

Lane has a 3.72 GPA and is majoring in physical education.
