SANTA FE - New Mexico Department of Transportation Secretary Ricky Serna will resign his position effective Feb. 20 after three-and-a-half years in the role, the Governor’s Office announced Monday.

Serna has led the state transportation department since 2022. Before that, he served as acting secretary of the New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions and as acting director of the State Personnel Office.

A first-generation college graduate from Española, Serna has worked in public education and state government for more than a decade.

“I thank the Governor for the confidence she put in me to serve my fellow New Mexicans,” Serna said in a statement. “You have my commitment to a strong transition and my assurance that a capable and engaged team awaits my successor.”

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham thanked Serna for his service and said plans for a successor will be announced in the coming weeks.

No additional details about Serna’s departure were immediately released.
