LAS CRUCES - Police are investigating a double shooting early Saturday that left one man dead and another injured in the parking lot of Whiskey Dicks, 101 E. Union Ave.

Shortly before 2 a.m., officers and firefighters responded to reports of gunfire with injuries in the nightclub’s parking lot. Investigators say two men, ages 28 and 37, were fighting when the older man pulled a gun and fired at least once, striking the younger man.

Police say someone else at the scene then shot the 37-year-old suspect before fleeing.

Both men were taken to local hospitals. The 28-year-old died of his injuries. The 37-year-old remains hospitalized and in custody.

Detectives are still trying to identify the person who shot the suspect and left before officers arrived.

Deputies from the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office assisted Las Cruces police at the scene.
