Pedestrian killed in Friday night crash on Boutz Road

Juan A. Haro, 48, was killed late Friday while crossing Boutz Road in Las Cruces. Police say he was struck by a Cadillac driven by a 17-year-old and are still investigating.

Police say 48-year-old Juan Haro was struck by teen driver near El Paseo

LAS CRUCES - Las Cruces police are investigating a Friday night crash that killed a 48-year-old man near the intersection of Boutz Road and El Paseo.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 10:50 p.m. June 13 and found Juan A. Haro with multiple injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Boutz Road on foot. Life-saving efforts were attempted, but Haro was pronounced dead at the scene.

This marked the second high-profile traffic-related fatality in Las Cruces in less than two weeks. On June 2, a 14-year-old was shot and killed in an apparent road-rage incident near Spruce Avenue.

Traffic investigators say Haro was crossing from north to south when he was hit by a black Cadillac CTS traveling westbound toward El Paseo. The 17-year-old driver stopped nearby and was interviewed by police at the scene. The vehicle was seized pending a search warrant.

No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation is ongoing.
