LAS CRUCES - Project Jupiter is scheduled to present a $1.5 million donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Las Cruces on Tuesday morning, a contribution that will push the organization’s fundraising effort for a new facility past a key threshold.
The donation is set to be presented at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday in the County Commission chambers, immediately before the regularly scheduled commission meeting. According to a media advisory from the Boys & Girls Club, the gift will support the organization’s Building Great Futures Capital Campaign, which aims to fund a new youth facility in Las Cruces.
With the addition of the $1.5 million donation, the campaign has surpassed 75% of its fundraising goal, a milestone that allows the organization to move forward with plans to break ground on the new facility.
The proposed project would transform the former Allen Theatres Video 4 building into a 30,000-square-foot campus designed to significantly expand programming and capacity. The Boys & Girls Club has said the new facility would allow it to serve up to three times as many youth as it currently does.
Elected officials expected to attend the donation presentation include Nathan Small, along with county commissioners and representatives from companies involved in the Project Jupiter proposal, including Stack Infrastructure and Borderplex Digital Assets.
Project Jupiter is a proposed data center development in southern New Mexico that has drawn public attention in recent months as state environmental officials review aspects of its air quality permitting. The project has also raised concerns among residents and environmental advocates because of its projected water consumption and electricity demand, which company filings and public statements indicate would exceed the annual energy use of New Mexico’s two largest cities. Company representatives have said the donation is intended to support youth services and community development through the Boys & Girls Club’s capital campaign.
The planned donation follows a smaller contribution made by Project Jupiter last year, when the company donated $50,000 to Casa de Peregrinos during a pop-up food pantry event in Sunland Park.
The Boys & Girls Club said additional details about the new facility, including construction timelines, are expected to be shared as the campaign continues.
