LAS CRUCES - The New Mexico Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting Oct. 29 to discuss progress on the widening of University Avenue from Avenida de Mesilla to South Main Street.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Zia Middle School cafeteria, 1300 New Mexico State Road 101. Representatives from NMDOT, Mesilla Mayor Russell Hernandez and La Calerita Construction will be available to answer questions and share updates on the project.

The project covers about 1.4 miles of NM 101 and includes new curbs and gutters, sidewalks, lighting, signage and roadway striping. It also adds a multi-use path, ADA-compliant ramps, new drainage structures and storm drain improvements along with railroad crossing upgrades.
