Organ Mountain News report

LAS CRUCES - Punk-inspired crafting is back this summer at Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, with a new round of Punk DIY workshops set to begin May 30. The five-part series offers a chance for teens and adults to create patches, spike collars, embroidered beanies and even plush “ugly dolls” — all in the spirit of do-it-yourself creativity.

Workshops will be held at 4 p.m. every other Friday through July 25 in the library’s Craft Room at 200 E. Picacho Ave. All materials are provided unless otherwise noted, and registration is now open through the library’s online calendar.

Here’s what’s planned:

  • May 30 – Hand stitched embroidery techniques: patches or beanies
Learn basic hand stitching skills to create DIY patches or decorate a beanie. Cloth and beanies are provided, but participants can bring their own items to personalize.
  • June 13 – Bejeweled book covers
Add some glam to your favorite read. Bring a book to decorate — jewels and glue will be provided.
  • June 27 – Customize a book bag with iron-on transfers and patches
All supplies are included. Participants can also choose a hat or beanie from the library’s supply or bring something from home to personalize.
  • July 11 – Spiked collars or cuffs for people and pets
Build a punk collar or wrist cuff using spikes and pleather. Great for personal flair or a bold pet accessory.
  • July 25 – Ugly dolls
Design, stuff and embroider your own ugly doll. Materials include realistic-looking teeth for extra character.

The series is free and open to the public. For details or questions, contact Mindy Del Campo at 575-528-4024 or adelcampo@lascruces.gov.

Those who need special accommodations to participate are encouraged to call 575-528-4102 or TTY 711 at least 48 hours in advance.
