LAS CRUCES - Gas prices in Las Cruces have fallen for the third straight week, dropping nearly 20 cents from early December and hitting some of the lowest levels the city has seen since summer.

AAA data on Friday shows the average price of regular unleaded in Las Cruces at $2.68, down from $2.86 a week ago and $2.80 one month ago. Mid-grade averages $3.18, premium is $3.47, and diesel has fallen to $3.37.

Local prices at the pump are even lower at some stations. GasBuddy reports the cheapest regular unleaded in the city between $2.23 and $2.24 on Friday morning at Love’s Travel Stop and Eagle Qwik Mart. Several Circle K, Murphy Express, Sam’s Club and Walmart locations are posting $2.27.

A handful of stations across the city remain in the mid-$2.30s and low $2.40s, but the overall trend continues downward as regional and national fuel costs ease.

AAA data shows Las Cruces drivers are paying slightly less than they were at this time last year, when regular unleaded averaged $2.72. Prices remain well below the city’s record high of $4.88 set in June 2022.

Gas prices typically fall during the winter as travel demand drops and refineries shift production. AAA expects relatively stable prices through the end of the year unless severe weather disrupts supply.
